Doctor in History with thesis in the scope of Historical Education and History of Education by the Faculty of Letters of the University of Porto.

Professor of Historical Sciences with specialization in Teaching History and History of Education; coordinator of the Technical and Scientific Unit of Cultural and Social Studies of Porto School of Education integrated researcher of the Center for Transdisciplinary Research «Culture, Space and Memory» (University of Porto, Portugal); collaborating researcher at the Center for Research and Innovation in Education (Porto School of Education) and integrated member of the International Society for History Didactics at the University of Augsburg, Germany. Author, coauthor and coordinator of works dedicated to History  teaching;coordinator of textbook authors and also textbook author for more than 20 years. Research in the field of Historical Education, Heritage Education and History of Education; participation in various congresses, courses and seminars, both in Portugal and abroad related to History and Heritage, his teaching and teaching activities. Research lines: historical education, school textbooks, heritage education, history of education, teacher training, education.

 

The use of sources in a constructivist perspective; the use of secondary sources to the understanding of History, like music; how to teach students to look and enjoy art;
bringing history to the daily life – the development of critical thinking and
historical consciousness strategies to motivate students to learn History.

The opportunity to exchange ideas and gain insights from the diverse participants of the Global Education Forum is very stimulating.Sharing my practices and materials with other teachers and getting the opportunity to know other practices, the recent developments in History teaching, is something that is quite important for me as a professor that trainee future History teachers and also as a textbook author. Expectations on meeting other colleagues and to discuss methods and approaches, sources, to discuss the multiperspectivity in History teaching. Also, the huge average of future contacts that will be established between the participants is one of the best benefits, because I am sure that we will all get in contact with each other and we will share materials, ideas and new approaches in History teaching. Furthermore, the discussion of different strategies of teaching History will be very relevant.
I will be able to disseminate those approaches in my country, in my teaching to prepare future teachers; in the in-service teachers training and in the way I write and structure my textbooks.
